Traditional/Michael Occhipinti. Ballu du curdedda was recorded by Alan Lomax in the town of Petralia Sottana on July 14, 1954 and is a harvest dance where the dancers tie ribbons (curdeddi) to a pole. Since the triplet feel is so strong, I thought it would be nice to follow it with a jazz waltz, since it is also grouped in three. I created a melody and chord structure that each soloist could improvise over, but where the feel would change with each soloist until we worked our way back to a tarantella and closed out the tune with the original folk melody.
