about

A 2009 JUNO (Canada's Grammy) nominee, The Sicilian Jazz Project takes the work songs of miners, fishermen, peasant women, and donkey cart drivers and reinvents them with the multicultural sounds of modern day Toronto. The ensemble easily moves between assorted global grooves, chamber music, funk, and jazz and boasts some of Canada's best musicians. The album garnered leader Michael Occhipinti and bassist/producer brother Roberto the "Ragusani Nel Mondo" Award in Ragusa, Sicily, celebrating the accomplishments of the Sicilian diaspora in the world.
