about

Ciuri Ciuri – Ciuri is a Sicilian word for flower (as opposed to the Italian word fiore) and this is a very common popular song that I would’ve heard as a child at weddings or on the Italian radio and tv programs my parents liked. When I mentioned to my sister Silvia that I was starting a jazz project doing Sicilian music she half jokingly asked if I was going to perform Ciuri Ciuri, so I decided that I would. There are a number of variations on the verses of the song, but this arrangement focuses on the chorus which is sung from the point of view of a spurned lover who says with irony that he is sending back the love he received
